Melbourne indie rock group LIPSTEREO recently returned to the studio with legendary Australian music producer Mark Opitz AM to record six new tracks. ‘Let Me Tell You Now' is the first track released today and is from their forthcoming EP, Modern Mythology Part Two.
‘Let Me Tell You Now’ is an urgent rock ‘n’ roll broadcast from one of the world’s great rock cities, Melbourne (Australia). The song started off as pitchy demo on lead singer, Sam Stranges’ old school Nokia phone. The song premiered earlier this year at a Sooki Lounge show in Melbourne and has now become the band’s most loved live and recorded track thus far… “with one of the quickest writing to recording turn arounds we’ve had,” said Stranges.
It's no secret that The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys and Weezer are the influences that the band wears on its sleeve. The track starts off with lead guitarist, Andrew Stainsby’s melodic distorted guitar attack that beckons the listener’s attention before a full throttle assault from the rest of LIPSTEREO.
The song is impassioned with Stranges sounding like gravel wrapped in honey. The bass mysteriously is somewhat removed from the standard ‘four on the floor’ rock cliches that would normally go with a track like this. Instead, we hear a Brian Wilson inspired bass arrangement that melodically dances around the fretboard whilst drummer Jesse Porter drives the roots rock rhythm with metronomic precision.
‘Let Me Tell You Now’ was recorded at Wick Studios in Melbourne, produced by Mark Opitz AM (INXS, AC/DC, Cold Chisel) and engineered by Cameron Hull and Colin Wynne. It was mixed at Thirty Mill Studios in Melbourne by Colin Wynne.
LIPSTEREO has received some well-earned media coverage, taking out Rolling Stone Australia’s ‘Record Of The Week’ twice with their first two EPs, ‘Modern Mythology’ (2022) and ‘Live At Bakehouse’ (2023). The band’s music has also been featured on ABC TV’s ‘Rage’ program whilst their Tik Tok videos went viral in the millions and were even written up about in NME earlier this year.
Internationally LIPSTEREO’s debut EP entered the North American College and Community Radio Chart (NACC) as the 16th most added album which covers the U.S. and Canada and even entered the Top 10 in the US Commercial Modern Rock Specialty radio charts. Two of their music videos have even been played on AXSTV and MTV in the US and South America.
‘Let Me Tell You Now’ is released on Friday 3rd November on all streaming platforms.
The LIPSTEREO sound…
“Dreamy pop and choppy guitars straight out of Is This It – if Julian Casablancas and co spent more time at the beach…”
Classic Rock Magazine
“…akin to early Beatles on steroids. Stranges’ voice, vaguely reminiscent of John Lennon, only rawer and edgier, imbues the lyrics with tasty rasping nuances.”
